FEAR OF GETTING A SUPPLEMENTARY
In the ‘60s, one thing Thomasonians were really scared of was failing in a subject. Anyone who got less than 33% marks in a subject got what was known as a supplementary. In other words, a second chance to clear the subject in which he had failed.

Roorkee University had a beautiful campus spread over an area of 350 acres. While the University office, departments, library and club were located at the centre of the campus, most hostels were on the periphery, making it necessary for students to have some kind of transport for moving around. The average distance travelled by a student, if he was attending all classes and workshops, could be anything between 6 to 8 kilometres per day.

Memoirs about DURGA PRASAD RASTOGI - Roorkee graduate - 1934
The life of Mr.Durga Prasad Rastogi (Retired Dy. Chief Engineer, PWD, Rajasthan), a 1934 graduate of Thomson College (now IIT Roorkee) can be compared in a small way to Bapu's "Experiments with Truth". It is an example of how a person from average, dusty village surroundings can grow to a level that was not seen possible by his contemporaries. It is an amazing story of how an unflinching faith in yourself coupled with virtues of honesty and sincerity can make you achieve what you want in life.
In this article, his son Dr.Ashok Rastogi (kanchanras@yahoo.ca), an IIT Kanpur- MSc Physics (1969) graduate and Ph.D. from Boston (1975) shares the story of this unique personality.
